Dear friends
Yes, I know it isn’t quite September yet, but the Scottish weather is not leaving us in any doubt that autumn is on the way. I also wanted to send this newsletter out just a little early to give you time to book into Burnout Rewire before it starts next week. You can find all the information below, and an exclusive link for accessing £25 off the price of the full course.
Over the summer I experimented with reducing my face-to-face client hours. I was feeling a little lost with my main writing project, and finding far too many excuses not to face the fear of the blank page. I can’t say two months of a more leisurely pace completely transformed my writing, but it did give me the reset I needed to recognise where I was putting too much pressure on ideas that weren’t quite there yet. It’s been interesting to see how I have carried the impetus of urgency over from academia, speaking, perhaps, of a slight uncertainty about my writing identity now. How do I motivate and mobilise if I don’t have the demands of the REF in the background? We explored some of these ideas in the Refresh Your Writing mini-retreat earlier this month – it was lovely to get so many of the community members and former retreat-ers back together to play and experiment. The next retreat will be in January.
As we head into the Autumn my working hours are returning to normal, and I am open for new clients. I am also putting together the community calendar for the last three months of the year – workshops are going to include Dealing with Dread (and the sunday scaries) as well as a special writing workshop for NanNoWriMo in November. The community continues to be a beautiful, supportive place for women who write, in academia and elsewhere, to come together and celebrate slow writing, mental wellbeing, advocacy and resistance. Burnout Rewire

Burnout Rewire starts next week! Beginning on Thursday 5th September this three-part coaching course takes you through the basics of burnout, how to repair damage done by burnout experiences, and accessing resources to support yourself in future. Drawing from neuroscience research, coaching tools, and my own experience in academia, this package is especially designed for those in HE – but the content is relevant to anyone juggling writing with another demanding role. I scheduled it to make sure you can get the support your need before the start of the new academic year. Find out more here.
The first workshop at 2pm on 5th September lasts 1.5 hours and is FREE to attend live. To sign up drop your email into the box below and I’ll send you the link:

Open for Clients
My practice currently has space for some new 1-2-1 clients. If you are looking for personalised coaching support please do get in touch. I specialise in supporting women who want to improve their relationship with themselves and their work, using trauma informed approaches including narrative coaching and somatic therapy. My approach is particularly suited to women in academia, other writers, and anyone working in caring professions.
I also offer a special package for other coaches and therapists who would like to learn how to use neuroscience and nervous system regulation techniques to care for their own and their clients’ wellbeing. I will have a group coaching package available to offer supervision using these techniques available later this year. If you would like to register interest please get in touch.

7 Days of Meditation

Start your September with seven days of cultivating calm! I will be releasing a short morning meditation every day next week on my YouTube channel @mind-body-movement. The meditation will be different every day, giving you the opportunity to try approaches from a range of therapeutic practices including somatic therapy, compassion focused therapy, and yoga nidra. To be notified of each new meditation, head over to YouTube and subscribe to my channel before Monday.
And finally…
I’ll be back later in the month with full details of my Autumn coaching programmes, including Beatha Coaching Community events and my new wellbeing supervision offer for coaches. In the meantime, if you would like to read more from me, my latest post on Substack discusses imposter syndrome in writing and coaching. Have a read and let me know if it resonates for you, I would love to hear from you.
