Whether you’re navigating moments of pressure, workplace tension, or feeling drained, Linda will help you shift from stress to self-care. “Nurture Your Strength, Not the Stress.” In those difficult moments, it’s easy to absorb negativity or let your self-esteem drift, but Linda will offer gentle ways to protect your sense of self and stay grounded. Supervising with mental health in mind – Friday 23rd 11am

£25 or free for BCC members

In this two-hour session you will be guided to think about your own academic experience and how this might impact on your supervision style and expectations.  You will then be introduced to a communication model that can reduce the likelihood of candidates attaching unreasonable expectations to their relationship with you.  In part two you will learn the basics of how our nervous system operates, including appreciating the subtleties of anxiety and burnout.  We’ll explore ways to support struggling students without taking on an excessive load or responsibility as their supervisor.  The workshop is interactive and includes opportunities to ask questions and reflect on current challenges.

This workshop is appropriate for anyone involved in PhD supervision, leading a research team, and those with pastoral care responsibilities. Booking includes the live workshop and lifetime access to the recording.

Finitude, endings, & letting go of your writing – Wednesday 18th 1pm

£12.50 / included in BCC membership

This interactive writing workshop will focus on Oliver Burkeman’s concept of ‘finitude’ to explore why endings and letting go are so hard in the writing process.  We’ll spend some time reflecting on our personal challenges with bringing writing to an end point and letting go of it, and use IFS Parts Work to get in touch with the parts of ourselves that are blocking our progress.  We’ll then move on to play more creatively with the concept of finitude through some creative practice, looking at the Zen reality that endings are inevitable, and how to celebrate this in our writing.

Working with people pleasing – Wednesday 18th 1pm

£12.50 / included in BCC membership

This workshop will begin with a brief introduction to people pleasing, as well as how and why it can show up in our own patterns..  But the majority of the workshop will concentrate on encountering people pleasers at work.  We will explore the different ways in which people pleasing can manifest, and the emotional impact/s it can have on those of us at the receiving end.  We’ll explore how you feel about the people pleasers in your life, and what gets activated in you.  We’ll then practice a range of tool that can be helpful for setting boundaries and managing the emotional expectations and demands of colleagues and students.
