March Newsletter

…just a day late…

Dear friends

I was back in my beloved St Abbs at the end of February and it was just starting to feel like the edge of spring. Now, a month later, the garden is flourishing, there are new leaves on the apple trees, and I’m about to head out for a walk in the sunshine. What a difference the arrival of spring makes! March was a very busy month for me, with Break Free from Imposter Syndrome running through Journey to Wellness as well as my usual community workshop online and sessions for the University of Stirling, plus two weekly yoga classes as well as the online community. In the midst of that I noticed that less clients were coming in for their regular 1-2-1 sessions, and I wonder if this is to do with the pressures of term, or is it the cost of living inching up? There are signs of hope though, I have several new clients starting this month all of whom are funded by their universities for coaching. I’m so glad to see some employers finally starting to invest in their staff rather than simply requiring more and more without offering real support. If you would like to investigate whether you can access funded coaching at your institution, why not send an email to your HR department and HOD to ask about schemes.

Easter bunny discounts…

Since the news today was all about ‘Awful April’ and the many many rises in the cost of living we are all facing, I wanted to make April a month of little giveaways and discounts to help you keep accessing support.

Community membership for just £18!

First off, I am reducing the price of membership in Beatha Coaching Community! Anyone who joins between now and 30th April will be able to get lifetime membership for Founding Member prices, that’s around half the cost of membership normally. Community members have access to a weekly co-writing hour, a monthly creative writing workshop, a monthly lunchtime workshop on a range of issues current in academia, a monthly group coaching session, a full archive of past workshops, and reduced cost 1-2-1 sessions with me. The value is normally £35 a month but in April you can get full access for £18 a month! And there are lower price bands for PhD students and those on precarious contracts. You will continue to pay the same amount monthly for as long as you maintain your membership.

If you are interested in the community and want to know more, check out the community calendar for the next three months. We have three amazing workshops coming up as well as all our usual events:

In April Linda Lazzaroni-Egan from Humankind is joining us to talk about attachment styles in the workplace and take questions on working with tricky colleagues.

In May I’ll be sharing some tools for stress and gut health from a recent training I did with NICABM

And in June one of our members, the amazing Dr Sophie Whittle from Sheffield’s Digital Humanities institute, will be taking us through a workshop on AI Anxiety in Academia.

(you can drop-in to the May and June workshops for a donation, but membership gives you automatic access as well as the follow-on coaching space and writing resources)

As part of the April giveaways, I am running a gentle online writing day on Friday 18th by donation. Community members get automatic access, for anyone else just pop over to my buymeacoffee page to donate the cost of a cup of coffee or two and I’ll send you the link. Here’s the schedule (everything is optional):

10am – 20 minute hatha yoga followed by a quick welcome and check-in

10.30-12 – co-writing with cameras on or off and chat shout-outs if you need support

12 – Lunch break

1.30 – 15 minute guided mindfulness practice and check-in

2-3.30 – co-writing with cameras on or off and chat available

3.30 – grab a cuppa and catch-up

Writers of any kind are really welcome to join for all or some of the day!

It’s back for April!

You also get a weekly email with seven suggested practices and direct links, including two new classes every week. You can head over to the platform now to see a sample of the latest classes on the site. Or, try the freebee class I’ve dropped into the end of this email!

The ‘360’ Academic Coaching Package

And to continue the theme I have decided to bring back the Academic Coaching Package. This was the first coaching model I ever offered and my longest running clients will remember it – six sessions over three months to work consistently and intentionally on an issue or two, whether writing, teaching, career planning, dealing with tricky colleagues, coming back from burnout, or finding new tools to work with anxiety.

The package is now available at a reduced price of £360 for x6 90 minute sessions (worth £420) PLUS 3 months membership in Beatha Coaching Community at no extra cost. There is also a reduced price version for PhD students.

This package is ideal for accessing support over a discrete period such as the summer (writing goals?), a semester, a sabbatical, or the first few months back after a break or mat leave. Or to get you through a particularly stressful period. If you think it sounds like it might be for you, do drop me a line below and we can get chatting.

And lastly…

I’m really delighted to be collaborating with Journey to Wellness again this month to bring Burnout Rewire to her members. If you missed Burnout Rewire last year, this three part series is the first course I designed as a coach and has since been refined with lots more juicy neuroscience content. You can join Burnout Rewire as a guest (members of Journey to Wellness will have automatic access to the course) by registering through Beck’s website. We start in Saturday 12th April. The cost is $169NZD, or about £75, for three live sessions plus the recordings and slides to keep afterwards. You can read more about the course here.

That’s it from me for now folks. Do hit reply and let me know how your month has been, I love to hear all your wins as well as anything I can help with. Click the link below for a little stress relief practice from Mind-Body-Movement and I’ll see you soon,

  1. Wow, you are busy! I love to have your updates as they usually make me pause and take the time to ponder for a bit. Lovely time to be returning to the Institute Library with the grass a carpet of spring bulbs. Itching to get this thesis over though and it’s a good time to update the plan to make this happen!
